“Gutless” “Driven by old men and slowly” “Damn Ugly” “A fad” were some of the words used by new passengers when I was running a series of ride and drive events here in New Zealand. Until we drove…
A Tesla in launch mode will accelerate from 0 – 100K in under 4 seconds and that is quite a lot of G force – certainly enough to cause the “gutless” commentator to not only scream in my ear but also to finish the ride saying he had never experienced anything like that acceleration in any car in his life.
Ok – that was a performance level Tesla, but the instant torque and smooth acceleration of ANY electric car will easily outperform fossil fuelled equivalents.
Racing
Henry Ford realised back in 1900, that racing his cars in public was the best way to achieve publicity and financial backing and it worked ! EVs are no different (apart from speed)
Anyone who has seen Hayden Paddon (Champion rally driver) throwing the Hyundai Kona EV around the rally circuit in New Zealand would certainly not use the word “gutless”
Formula E – 30% faster than Formula 1
The 2025 Generation of Formula E cars will be the quickest accelerating FIA single-seater race cars ever.
October 2024 marked the launch of the Mahindra M11Electro, their latest Formula E challenger. The fastest EVER FIA single-seater.
To quote their CCO “The old saying goes that if it looks fast it will be fast. We already know the latter. This will do 0-60mph in 1.82s (0-100kph in 1.86s), 30% faster than an F1 car”
“Gutless” EVs ? I think not.

Formula 1
Have been using Hybrid technology for years – why? because electric is faster…not because electric is “gutless” for sure!
